Just recently I have gotten back on my road bike. I took it to work (The Bicycle Escape) to get new brake pads and to tune it up. The bike is running just like it did when I brought it a couple of years ago. Today I road my bike to work witch I never had done before. Riding my road bike for the first time again was great. Getting out there again was tons of fun, the weather was warm and humid but I was out on my bike again so no complaints.
The sole purpose of this ride was to prove to my parents and to my self that I was going to be ok riding by my self again and crossing THE BRIDGE. Witch is an old two lain bridge that has no shoulder. To just put it out in the open it is not a user friendly bridge. One thing that did bother me today while I was riding was how many cars didn’t care or even notice that I was there. Meaning the drove right beside me inches away from me and the lane next to them was open. Cars have always been right there and from my experience have never liked bikers of any kind, bicycles or motorcycles. The problem is I don’t want to get hit by a car AGAIN!! Getting hit on my Haro BMX in a parking lot was enough for me. I would like to push for more sings on roads. It’s a free country we all can be on the roads, if we can just get a few more sings on the main roads that we are able to ride on and they are just a little bit bigger I believe it will help. I’m just not looking forward to getting hit by a car again anytime soon so I thought id just put that comment out there.
My parents overall did win the battle of proving to me that it isn’t safe to ride where I rode my bike today. I know it isn’t and have known and been told by several other riders that it isn’t safe. BUT that isn’t going to keep me off my bike. I'm going to ride and I’m going to ride to work. I would like more sings and more awareness and more riders on the roads. But that doesn’t mean ill get it o the best thing to do is to keep riding and I’m going to sit here and tell the rest of you to get up and get going. Get on your bike and go ride, get out there it’s a ton of fun and I’m sure you’ll love it.
Good luck to all you riders out there an ill see you either on the trail or out on the roads!!
